A return to Racoon City
Resident Evil Requiem marks the ninth mainline entry in Capcom’s legendary survival horror franchise, Resident Evil. This adventure-horror game blends cinematic visuals with a return to the series’ terrifying roots. Players will step into the shoes of Grace Ashcroft, a new protagonist tied to Resident Evil’s deeper lore, and unravel a haunting mystery set in the ruins of Raccoon City.
Scared to the nines
At the heart of Resident Evil Requiem lies its chilling narrative. Grace Ashcroft, an FBI technical analyst and daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak, becomes entangled in a series of grisly deaths tied to her family’s past. This leads her to the Remwood Hotel, a decrepit location that embodies claustrophobic tension, and later back to Raccoon City itself.
Capcom has chosen to combine the best of its past two installments by offering the ability to switch seamlessly between first-person and third-person views. The gameplay emphasizes survival horror fundamentals: resource management, puzzle-solving, and heart-stopping encounters with stalking enemies. However, it can feel familiar for long-time fans. Moreover, it retains the linear gameplay.
A chilling return to horror
Resident Evil Requiem embraces the series’ legacy with a gripping narrative, eerie environments, and gameplay that balances survival horror fundamentals with modern mechanics. The seamless perspective-switching adds variety, while Grace Ashcroft’s story enriches the lore. Although its linear structure and familiar gameplay may limit innovation, its atmospheric design and strong connection to Resident Evil’s roots make it a thrilling experience for both longtime fans and newcomers.
